A New Beginning for The Goochland Recreational Center
Come back and support the Goochland Recreational Center, let us not forget those who paved the way and made history.
The Goochland Recreational Center (GRC), founded in 1961 at the height of the Civil Rights Movement by local Black residents, was once the heart of the community — a place of joy, unity, and opportunity.
Today, the GRC Board, led by President **Ryan Leabough** and Recording Secretary **Vernon Fleming**, are working tirelessly to restore this historic treasure. With membership growing from **47 in January to more than 300 today**, hope is alive again for a full revival.
The vision includes:
* **Restoring the pond** and outdoor recreation areas
* **Upgrading facilities** like bathrooms and event spaces
* **Creating a sustainable center** for weddings, celebrations, and cultural gatherings
* **Bringing back wholesome recreation** — from line dancing and yoga to the annual July Fourth celebration
