Goochland Recreational Center 65th Gala Photo’s

The Goochland Recreational Center celebrated its 65th Anniversary at the Westin Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday, April 11, 2026. In support of this celebration, Fauquier Baptist Church proudly served as a sponsor and placed an ad in the commemorative booklet, expressing our wishes for continued success and many more years of service to the community.

As a church sponsor, we encourage our members to consider obtaining individual memberships in support of the Goochland Recreational Center’s ongoing efforts. Under the leadership of Ryan Leabough, the center continues to build upon the original purpose established by its founders—to provide a place where people can learn, grow, and thrive. The original founders created the center for people of color who did not have equal access to spaces that supported equality.  Today, that vision lives on through various projects aimed at revitalizing the center by incorporating all residents in the county while keeping its historical purpose intact. These efforts include becoming recognized as a historical landmark, restoration of the baseball field, creation of a nature trail, continue programs past and present, and planned renovations to the interior of the building, beginning with the bathrooms.

Many members of Fauquier Baptist Church, along with other community members and friends, attended the gala and had a marvelous time while fully supporting the center’s mission and efforts. Our members can be seen in event footage enjoying themselves in a spirit of wholesome fellowship and community pride, dancing to the smooth soulful sound of Shades of Gray.

Several members of our church are also lifetime members and serve on the Board of Directors, If you have not yet explored the Goochland Recreational Center, we encourage you—as members of our church family, as members of this community, or as individuals interested in giving back—to visit the website, become a member, and see firsthand the great work being done.

As we gather in fellowship, Goochland/Powhatan Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) invites you to join us in a vital mission of love and protection. April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, and our 2026 theme is: “Building Stronger Families: Solid Foundations for Family Well-being.”
We invite your church family to stand with us as we believe that when communities and churches unite, God is glorified. Together, we can be a voice for the voiceless and make a lasting difference in the lives of children.
• Blue Sunday (April 26): We ask that you join faith communities across the nation in a National Day of Prayer for abused children and the dedicated individuals who work to rescue and support them. We also ask your congregation to wear blue on that day in honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
• The Pinwheel Gardens: As you travel throughout Goochland and Powhatan this month, you will see blue pinwheels. These represent the bright, healthy, and hopeful futures all children deserve. May they serve as reminders to pray for our youth.
