October’s Reflection
Inspired by Points to Ponder: Devotional Readings

Dear Members and Friends,
I would like to share these reflections inspired by the devotional work of the Rev. Dr. Barbara A. F. Brehon, an author I met at the Baptist General Convention Leadership Conference. Her work encourages us to consider how we care for our families and support others. Love requires more than kind words. It calls us to forgive, recognize needs, and offer help with willing hearts.
In Genesis, Joseph chose to provide for his family despite the hurt he had experienced. His example encourages us to show mercy rather than allow past wrongs to determine how we treat one another. Forgiveness can open the door to healing and renewed relationships.
The reading from 1 Timothy reminds us of our responsibility to care for those who need assistance. Within our families and our church family, someone may be grieving, facing illness, feeling lonely, or quietly struggling. A telephone call, a visit, a meal, a ride, or a listening ear can become a meaningful expression of God’s love.
As we enter October, let us make room for compassion in our daily lives. May we be patient with one another, attentive to those who are hurting, and faithful in supporting both our own households and our church family.

Am I showing the same care and kindness at home that I offer to others? Who needs my forgiveness, encouragement, or practical help this week?
Prayer — The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:9–13 (KJV)
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
