Enclosed are the job descriptions for JRDBA officers of the Parent Body and the Women’s  Missionary and Educational Convention.
Each church is asked to identify members of its congregation who may be called to serve as officers of the James River District Baptist Association. In God’s Kingdom, service in these positions is considered a calling.
Please confirm that each candidate is available and willing to fulfill the duties and responsibilities outlined in the position descriptions. You are encouraged to make copies of the position descriptions for distribution as needed. 
The Nominating Committee is available to visit your church to answer any questions your congregation may have regarding the nomination process. Committee members are Rev. Bryan J. Stevens, Diaconate Agnes Vaughan, and Deacon Tammy Woodson.

Parent Body Officers

Moderator

The Moderator oversees the day-to-day operations of the James River District Baptist Association and leads the Executive Committee in carrying out its mission.

General Information

  • Ministry Area: General Staff / Administration
  • Accountable To: 19 Churches in the Association
  • Ministry Target: Churches in the Association
  • Position Status: Staff
  • Position Filled By: Church member of a member church
  • Minimum Maturity Level: Solid, mature Christian
  • Length of Service: Two Years

Responsibilities

  1. Call meetings to order.
  2. Preside over meetings.
  3. Announce business in proper order.
  4. Present questions for vote.
  5. Preserve order and decorum.
  6. Decide questions of order.

First Vice Moderator

Serves in the Moderator’s absence and assists with management and operations of the Association.

General Information

  • Two-Year Commitment
  • Accountable to the 19 Churches of the Association

Responsibilities

  1. Preside in the Moderator’s absence.
  2. Assist with Executive Committee operations.
  3. Serve as Chairperson of the New Bodies Committee.

Second Vice Moderator

Serves in the absence of the Moderator and First Vice Moderator and assists in leadership of the Association.

Responsibilities

  1. Preside in absence of higher officers.
  2. Maintain order during meetings.
  3. Assist with Association operations.

Third Vice Moderator

Serves as Christian Education Moderator and assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of senior officers.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with Christian Education.
  2. Preside as needed.
  3. Support Executive Committee operations.

Treasurer

Ensures ethical handling and management of Association finances.

Desired Qualifications

  • Financial experience or education
  • Trustworthy and dependable
  • Good stewardship practices

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain accurate financial records.
  2. Manage deposits and disbursements.
  3. Ensure proper authorization of checks.
  4. Present financial reports

Assistant Treasurer

Assists the Treasurer with management of Association finances and records.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with financial reports.
  2. Help maintain records.
  3. Ensure proper financial procedures are followed. Recording Secretary

Provides clerical and administrative support for the Association.

Desired Qualifications

  • Clerical and organizational skills
  • computer knowledge
  • Professional and dependable

Responsibilities

  1. Record meeting minutes.
  2. Maintain official records.
  3. Notify officers and delegates.
  4. Prepare meeting materials.
  5. Maintain Association correspondence and files.

Corresponding Secretary

Provides official communication and correspondence support for the Association.

Responsibilities

  1. Issue notices of meetings.
  2. Send official correspondence.
  3. Assist with administrative communication.

Women’s Ministry & Educational Convention Officers

President

Oversees management and operations of the Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention.

Desired Qualifications

  • Leadership and administration
  • Organizational ability
  • Knowledge of educational practices
  • Knowledge of Robert’s Rules of Order

Responsibilities

  1. Preside over meetings.
  2. Lead Convention operations.
  3. Maintain order and decorum.
  4. Support the mission of the Association.

Women’s Vice President

Serves in the President’s absence and assists with operations of the Convention.

Responsibilities

  1. Support the President.
  2. Preside when needed.
  3. Assist with Convention operations.

Women’s Treasurer

Assists with ethical handling and management of Convention finances.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain financial records.
  2. Process authorized checks.
  3. Present financial reports.
  4. Ensure proper stewardship

Women’s Assistant Treasurer

Supports the Treasurer in management of Convention finances.

Responsibilities

  1. Assist with deposits and records.
  2. Help prepare reports.
  3. Ensure compliance with financial procedures.

Women’s Recording Secretary

Provides clerical and administrative support for the Convention.

Responsibilities

  1. Record meeting minutes.
  2. Maintain official records.
  3. Prepare meeting documents.
  4. Support communication efforts.

Women’s Corresponding Secretary

Handles notices and official correspondence for the Convention.

Responsibilities

  1. Send notices of meetings.
  2. Prepare official correspondence.
  3. Maintain communication records.
